Astrocartography is a branch of astrology that maps where each planet was angular at the moment of your birth onto the globe. Each planet draws four lines, and astrologers read places near a line as places where that planet's theme is stronger in your life.
The method was developed by the American astrologer Jim Lewis in the 1970s. It is also called locational astrology or relocation astrology. A full map draws four lines for each of ten bodies, from the Sun and Moon to Pluto, so about 40 lines in total.
Because the Earth turns about 1° every 4 minutes, a small error in birth time shifts every line on the map. That is why Fate Studio asks for your birth time, and why it ranks cities by how close they sit to each line instead of only showing a tangle of curves.
Career, reputation and being seen for your work.
Home, roots and the places that feel like family.
Identity, energy and how you show up to others.
Partnership, love and the people you meet.
In traditional astrocartography, these are the lines most often read as supportive for each life goal. Fate Studio uses the same logic when it ranks cities for you.
| Goal | Lines to look for | What people report |
|---|---|---|
| Love | Venus DSC, ASC or MC · Jupiter DSC · Moon DSC | Easier connection, being noticed, warm relationships |
| Career | Sun MC · Jupiter MC · Venus MC | Visibility, recognition, opportunities in public life |
| Personal growth | Jupiter ASC · Sun ASC · Uranus ASC | Confidence, new starts, feeling more like yourself |
| Stability and home | Moon IC · Venus IC · Jupiter IC | Belonging, rest, a place that feels like home |
| Use with care | Saturn, Mars and Pluto lines | Read as demanding: discipline, conflict or deep change |
Lines are usually read as strongest within a few hundred kilometres. Astrocartography is a reflective practice and is not scientifically validated, so use it as one input next to practical factors like work, cost of living and the people you love.

An astrocartography app calculates where each planet was rising, setting, culminating or anti-culminating at your birth and draws those lines on a world map. Fate Studio adds a ranked list of real cities for a goal you choose, so you do not have to read the lines yourself.
Yes, for the map. Lines move about 1° of longitude for every 4 minutes of birth time, which can shift a line by more than 100 km. For the daily insight your birth date is enough. If you only know an approximate time, start with it and update it later.
Venus lines are the classic love lines, especially Venus on the Descendant (DSC). Jupiter DSC and Moon DSC are also read as supportive for relationships. In Fate Studio you can pick Love as a goal and see the cities ranked for you.
The Midheaven (MC) lines are the career lines. Sun MC and Jupiter MC are read as the most supportive for visibility and recognition, and Venus MC for creative or people-facing work.
No scientific study has validated astrology or astrocartography. Fate Studio presents it as a tool for reflection and decision-making, not as prediction. Many people use it to think about where to travel or move alongside practical factors.
Yes, this is the most common use. People check their map before choosing a holiday, a semester abroad or a relocation, and look for cities near supportive lines for their goal.
